No, it has to do with how your visual cortex works. Your visual cortex is a part of your brain that connects to the retina, where there are two different kinds of photoreceptors, cones and rods. Rods perceive light, cones perceive color. The trichromatic theory says there are three main colors that the cones perceive. The lasting perception of the color you stared at combined with the complete lack of color shows a sort of blank canvas onto which the photoreceptors to project the colors, the opposite of what the cones in your retina were formerly perceiving. if you were to stare at a black dot in the middle of a green star and suddenly look to a white piece of paper, it’d have the same effect.
